Only a few years ago, creating a web site for your business might have consisted of simply writing a brief description of your company and products and maybe adding a mailing address and email link. In fact, if you haven’t changed your site in years, there’s a good chance that’s all you’ve got in the way of a site. But as the web has evolved - and the number of web users has grown - it has become important not only for you to have a web site with the basics, it’s become a necessity to have an online presence.
That’s where blogging comes in - and why you should consider a blog for your company.
The word blog is defined as: “a web site on which an individual or group of users produces an ongoing narrative.” Remember that web site you have that has looked exactly the same for the last four years? That tired site is the opposite of “ongoing narrative.” In the heavily trafficked internet of today, that ongoing narrative is extremely important. Why? Because users and customers are drawn to sites/companies that have something to say. Maybe you have a new product. Perhaps you have won an industry award or landed an important new client. Maybe you want to share your thoughts on your particular industry - or even just your particular hobby. The blogging format is your answer. This is good news for you.
Good news #1: The very act of updating your “ongoing narrative” (the process of adding new content, which we call blogging) in and of itself increases the traffic to your web site. It’s worth repeating: Blogging increases the amount of people who come to your site. The explanation for this is simple: people often find web sites through searching (via Google or Yahoo, etc) and the more you blog, the more searchable content you have. The more searchable content you have, the wider net you cast. Not to mention that you’ll get repeat visitors - when people see that you update your site with new content on a regular basis, they’ll come back to see what’s new.
Good news #2: Once a blog is set up, you can update it and add new content on your own - no web coding required. If you can create a document in Microsoft Word, you can create a blog entry. You do not need to purchase web design software or make a phone call every time you have something new to put on your site. It’s fun, it’s easy, it’s cheap, it’s productive.
At Go Creative, we’ve fully embraced blogging technology. In fact, what you are reading right now is, you guessed it, a blog entry. Technically, our entire site is a blog. We use Wordpress software, one of the most powerful, versatile, powerful - and user friendly - blogging platforms around.
When we want to add something to our site, we access a portion of our site available only to us, where we write a blog entry, hit the “publish” button, and presto, it appears on the site.
We’ve created blogs and web sites utilizing blogs for several clients. We know the in and outs of blog design and functionality, so we can tailor a blog site to fit your style and needs. Just like we did for KOOLGLIDE, Nexicor, PDspect, Peak Consulting, Making Visible and other individuals and companies. And our little secret: other design firms have even come to Go Creative to create blog sites for them (shhh, don’t tell).
Contact Go Creative for more information about what we can do to get you or your company using this important tool. When you are ready to use a blog web site to tell your story and be rewarded with increased traffic… we’ll be there.
